German Conversation Topics — Fragen zum Sprechen

Choose a German question, read the English hint if you need it, and answer aloud. These everyday prompts are for informal practice with a partner or on your own. The surrounding instructions are in English; the questions themselves are in German.

Your practice prompt

Was machst du gern am Wochenende?

What do you enjoy doing at the weekend? Name an activity, say who joins you, and explain why you like it.

Build an answer in three sentences

Begin with a direct answer, add a reason, then offer an example. For the weekend question, you might say: Am Wochenende gehe ich gern spazieren. Ich bin gern draußen. Letzten Sonntag war ich mit einer Freundin im Park. Read the question once, note three useful words, and try your own version without memorizing the sample. Keep the meaning simple enough that you can explain an unfamiliar word another way.

Make partner practice a conversation

Take turns choosing a question. The listener should ask one follow-up such as Warum?, Wie oft?, or Kannst du ein Beispiel nennen? Wait until the speaker finishes before discussing corrections. Repeat the answer after feedback using one improved phrase. If a topic is too difficult, simplify it from an opinion into a personal preference; if it is too easy, add a comparison or talk about the past.

Keep a small vocabulary record

After each round, write down two expressions that would have helped you finish your thought. Check their meaning, pronunciation, and grammatical form with a trusted language resource or teacher. Use them in a second attempt on the same topic. This page supplies practice questions, not automated grammar correction or a formal proficiency assessment.
